Description

A long 2 day drive to Texas to see the total eclipse was almost cancelled due to the weather forecast. We finally decided to go, and while the weather for the event was far from perfect we did manage to see a few glimpses of the Sun, including a couple of peeks during totality. After coercing my entire family to come to see the event I was very glad we were lucky enough to see anything at all really given the conditions. 1 day earlier and we would have had bluebird skies, 1 day later and we would have seen absolutely nothing (driving home that 1st day after the eclipse we wished for a boat instead of a car it was raining so hard for so long...)

I have been very happy with my results form the 2017 eclipse and so I resolved not to bring all of my gear to photograph this one. Even so I had 2 cameras, one set up on a fixed tripod for a composite, and one that I had my 100-500 zoom on, mounted using a gimbal head. The fixed tripod camera results were mostly dark due to the sun being clouded over most of the time. On the other camera with the zoom, I found it pretty difficult to get the sun in the camera at all with it being so far overhead. I was lucky to get this one bracket during totality that I used to make this image.
